Explore, Make Choices, Move Forward: Light Up
Hello, I am Julie Webb – a mature, experienced therapist and supervisor offering psychotherapy for people who are experiencing difficulty, transition, uncertainty or change - or who feel that something in their life needs deeper attention. I work in a traditional way - at depth, with a modern twist, a sprinkle of spirit, and I am a devil with the detail!
I am BACP registered and accredited with over 16 years’ experience in the NHS, Higher Education and Independent settings in the Cambridge, London and Essex.
As a lecturer and trainer in counselling and personal development, I have worked at Cambridge University, the University of Suffolk, Anglia Ruskin University, and Shrewsbury College delivering retreats and workshops on therapy and philosophy, deep dives for personal change, and reflective spaces. I have over 10 years' experience as a Supervisor for Counsellors and Psychotherapists, GPs, Palliative Care Consultants, Hospital Chaplaincy services and Teaching staff. I have also published articles, reviews and books in my field, sometimes collaborating with other like-minded colleagues in the Humanistic and Philosophical field of psychotherapy.
I offer online appointments and am delighted to announce that I will be offering in-person appointments at Gillvray Health, Hills Road, Cambridge, from January 2027.

I offer a limited number of clients bespoke, depth-oriented therapeutic work, and deliberately choose to keep a small concurrent caseload so that I can offer each person the time, attention and continuity in what is intimate, sensitive, confidential and transformative work; depth requires time, presence and an individual approach.
My job is to be with you when your experience of life, an event, or a dilemma, is causing struggle or suffering. Together, our task will be to find a way through and to find a way to trust that when life is tough you will be okay - we do that by leaning in, which is courageous and requires pacing and steady containment.
The rhythm of the work
There are lots of different rhythms in the world of therapy depending upon the modality being offered: six-week solution-focused work, single-session therapy, five sessions a week in psychoanalysis and everything in between. The rhythm I offer maintains both containment and flexibility in the therapeutic relationship.
I work in monthly rhythms which allow for those who want a weekly commitment to get into the frame and depth of the work more fully, and also accommodates those for whom fortnightly sessions may be more suitable because they are a seasoned client, have done lots of change work, life is busy, it suits their pocket a little more easily, or what they are wanting to work with requires a gentler pace.
How long might we work together?
There is no fixed timescale for depth/change work. Depending on your situation, your needs and what you are wanting to explore and change, we may work together for 1, 3, 6, 12 months, or longer - life's ups and downs don't have a time limit!
With life's unexpected twists and turns, after we have come to the end of a phase of work together, you are welcome to return for an occasional session if something arises that you would like to explore, or, if your needs are more substantial, we can agree a further set of sessions together, subject to availability. This means that you can step away from the work when you feel ready, while knowing that the relationship and support remain available to you should you need them again.
Please note that I offer occasional/ad hoc sessions only to clients who have completed an Initial Consultation and have previously worked with me.
The point of therapeutic encounter is that you are not alone on this journey of change.
I am here to bear witness, be alongside you, notice what I notice and help you explore experiences, choices and actions that may take you forward.
I will attend to what is illuminated - and help you bear the illumination when it comes. My intention is to be of aid so that you can feel grounded in a groundless world, light up, even if that means learning to be okay in the dark.
We will listen to what is said and unsaid; be curious and creative; perhaps work with dreams and your vivid imagination; develop trust; and, when the time is right, challenge and move forward.
Whilst many therapy models may come into our work, my practice is grounded in the Humanistic Tradition, specifically, Person-centred, Existential and Experiential psychotherapy.
It is also informed by my background in
philosophy, the arts and Zen Buddhism with particular interest in impermanence, choice, freedom, meaning and how we live.
I have worked with anxiety, loss, grief, identity, confidence and self-esteem, relationship difficulties, life transitions, traumatic experience, low mood, decision-making and burnout - among many other human challenges.
Sometimes what brings us to therapy does not yet have a name.
Whilst modern science continues to reveal much about how creatively our brains dance with our histories, hormones, and body, after thousands of hours working with clients I often find that clients are still left with deeper questions of:
What does it mean to be me in a world full of others?
How do I bear my pain and suffering?
How do I live well?
The answers are rarely a straight line. They may meander, double-back, arrive in ways we do not expect.
Therapy is a place to make room for uncertainty, listen carefully to what emerges and discover what may be possible from here.
Beginning
Our first step is simply a conversation with a complimentary 15-minute introductory telephone/zoom call so that you can ask questions, tell me a little about what brings you here, and explore working together. If it feels right for both of us, we can arrange an Initial Consultation.
Initial Consultation - £150
A 90-minute session to give us time to explore more deeply your situation, what you may need, and to decide the rhythm for working together - the intention is neither to rush the work nor to let it drift.
The Working Rhythm:
Intensive weekly rhythm - £400 per month
Four 60-minute sessions
Fortnightly spacious rhythm - £200 per month
Two 60-minute sessions
The rhythm can be reviewed and changed as the work develops.
Where do we do the work?
Sessions take place online and from January 2027 in-person appointments will be available at Gillvray Health, Hills Road, Cambridge, which will allow us to open up flexibility in the work.
Availability
I deliberately work with a limited number of clients so that I can offer each person the time, attention and continuity that meaningful change-work requires. This means that my availability can be limited at times, but please do feel free to enquire.

Supervision
As a mandatory aspect of the therapeutic profession, I offer a reflective and supportive space for Counsellors and Psychotherapists to explore client work in the therapeutic relationship, along with experiences such as compassion fatigue, burnout and vicarious trauma. We can explore any concerns, organisational issues, and also the supervisory relationship itself for best and safe practice. Outside of clinical practice, the latter topics are relevant to any person working in the helping professions; GPs, Consultants, Teachers, Social Workers, the Nursing profession and Emergency Service workers and/or Executives and Managers wanting to explore relationally in the workplace.
As a supervisory relationship can last many years as we develop into and out of any work that we are engaged in, I fully understand that a suitable match is important and I hope that the information and descriptions I have given about my work as a therapeutic practitioner have already gone some way to inform you about my values in the work. If you engage in supervision with me, our work will be underpinned by encouragement, support and equality and will meet the standards articulated in the BACP ethical framework.
My supervision training is robust post-graduate level, taken over a 2 year period with Cambridge Supervision Training and accredited by The Association of Adlerian Psychology.
Whilst updating regularly with CPD, I also engage monthly in the practice of 'Supervision of Supervision' to support this work.
My fees for Supervision are £80 per hourly session and take place online.
Please feel free to contact me if you wish to explore further.

You can also call me on 07540399586 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
